Catalunya is home to Hermann's tortoise
Hermann's tortoise have a black and yellow hard-shelled, that is the only tortoise that lives in the zone of mediterranium, in Catalunya's zone they live in the final spurs of the Pyrenees, in the north-eastern corner of Girona province. At the last count, there were an estimated 7,000 specimens living in the wild in this part.
The zone of forest, like a lot at the tortoises, because there are a lightly days in Spring and Summer, and they can get energy, also the herbs of the undergrowth, make feed them.
The park in Alberes, Parc Natural de l'Albera, created in 1986, get safe this tortoise that was in extinction. This park, leave tortoises in the wild habit, marked to identify them in the nature. It helps to the animal, get survive and increase their population in wild habit.
A visit tot he Centre de Reproducció de Tortugues in Garriguella is the perfect opportunity to get know an often ignoret part of Catalunya's natural history.
